Ways To Fix Your Credit & Increase Your FICO
September 22nd, 2009 | by admin |Order Your Credit Report online in either Equifax, Experian or Transunion, but make sure you order the 3 in 1 version. This way you get to see what is on your credit report in all 3 bureaus.
Ok, you got your credit report, what now?
Search for errors… comb them through for inaccuracies.. balance amounts, credit limits, delinquencies, paid and closed accounts… dispute whatever you find that is incorrect. Just login to which ever credit bureau you requested your credit report from, and there should be a dispute functionality online. Click it, follow the instructions and it’s done. In my experience, whenever I’ve disputed something, it’s been updated within the same calendar month. Hopefully you will have the same luck.
Now check for anything negative that is 7 years or older. Many times you can request them removed and they do…
Ok, what else can I do to fix my credit report?
If you have shared credit cards with a spouse or significant other and the credit to debt ratio is way high (60%-70%+) and you are just an authorized user, go ahead and request that you are taken out of them.
Now figure out what 30% of your credit limit is per each of your credit cards. I know this is hard, but figure how you can get your credit card debts to know more than 30% of your credit limit. The reason is because balance of 30%+ plus start affecting your score, so any payments you can do to make your debt closer than no more than this, will benefit you greatly.
Paying your debt over time affects your FICO Score in a more positive way than pay lump somes… but to be honest, if you have cash to just take a chunk away out of your debt, DO IT! The worst thing that can happen is that you owe less.
OK, so there you go. Now go and order your credit report and start paying off your debt.
Next calendar month, check your credit report, make sure all items have been removed and then decide to order your FICO Score.
